Make Progress: Pray in the Holy Spirit

By Rev Dunamis Okunowo · Saturday, 3 October 2026 · 2 min read

Prayer in the Holy Spirit is part of spiritual progress. Prayer is not an emergency button reserved for moments of crisis. It is a daily relationship with God. Through prayer, we bring our fears, plans, questions and desires into His presence. We learn to listen, surrender and receive strength for obedience.

Praying in the Holy Spirit means depending on God rather than trusting only our own understanding. There are moments when we do not know what to say or how to interpret a situation. The Spirit helps us pray with sincerity and aligns our hearts with God’s purposes. Prayer keeps spiritual growth from becoming a self improvement project powered by pride.

A growing prayer life has rhythm. Choose a regular time, but remain willing to pray throughout the day. Pray with Scripture, pray honestly and pray for other people. Keep a record of answered prayers so that memory can strengthen faith when another difficult season comes. Do not measure prayer only by emotion. Faithfulness matters even when the moment feels ordinary.

Prayer must lead to action. If you pray for wisdom, be willing to receive correction. If you pray for provision, manage what is already in your hands. If you pray for people, look for ways to encourage them. Fellowship with God produces obedience, compassion and courage.

When prayer feels difficult, begin simply. Thank God for one thing, confess one burden, ask for help and remain quiet long enough to listen. You do not need impressive language. You need an honest heart and a willingness to return. Over time, prayer becomes a place of strength rather than a task to complete.

This week, set aside a daily appointment with God. Put away the phone, read a short passage and pray from what you have read. Bring your decisions and relationships before Him. Then act on the wisdom you receive.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, teach me to pray. Give me endurance, sensitivity and faith. Let prayer become the centre of my decisions and the source of strength for my service. Amen.
